OTHM offers the following level of courses:
- OTHM Introductory Certificate
- OTHM Professional Certificate
- OTHM Professional Diploma
- OTHM Professional Higher Diploma
OTHM has a key relationship with London South Bank University
allowing holders of the OTHM Higher Diploma to have direct entry to the final
year of London South Bank University's Bachelor's degree programme BA (Hons) in
Tourism and Hospitality.
Students who have successfully completed the OTHM Higher Diploma and who have
two years management experience in the tourism and hospitality industry are
eligible to apply for entry to London South Bank University MSc programme.
OTHM is currently negotiating with further UK universities for Student
Members to be able to join their Bachelor's and Master's degree courses with a
suitable OTHM qualification and experience.
Course Aims and Objectives:
To provide students with:
- Qualifications that give them the knowledge need to build a career in the
tourism and hospitality industry.
- An understanding that help to make them a professional in their chosen
fields, like food and beverage, hotels, tour operations, airlines or in any
other part of the industry.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course the students will be able to:
- Understand the operations, structure and culture of the hospitality and
tourism industry
- Understand contemporary issues in the industry
- Apply information technology skills in the industry
- Develop customer relations skills
OTHM Introductory Certificate
Qualification: IntroCert OTHM
Who is this suitable for?
The OTHM Introductory Certificate is suitable for Student Members who are at
the beginning of their careers. Candidates do not necessarily have to have
experience of working in the industry at the outset of the course but, if they
do not have this experience, students are expected to be working in the industry
on a part-time basis during the course. The Introductory Certificate course
allows candidates to acquire useful basic knowlege as a preparation for a career
in the industry.
Please note: You must be 18 years or older at the beginning
of the course.
Marks allocated: 60% Project, 30% On-line examination, 10%
Attendance
Project:
The project will cover a practical working situation in travel, tourism or
hospitality. Students are expected to undertake some research and to draw on
their current work experience. Your training centre will assist you in choosing
and defining your topic so that it covers areas of the OTHM Introductory
Certificate syllabus. Assessment of the Introductory Certificate Project.
On-Line Exam :30 questions multiple choice to be completed
in 1 hour at an OTHM Approved On-Line Examination Centre.
Pass Mark :
- Candidates should attain at least 50% in both the Project and On-Line
Examination to gain the Introductory Certificate
- Grades will be allocated according to the OTHM grade table
Progression: On passing the OTHM Introductory Certificate
Members will be eligible to be considered for OTHM Certificate course.
OTHM Certificate
Qualification: Cert OTHM
Who is this suitable for?
The OTHM Certificate is suitable for students who have already gained an OTHM
Introductory Certificate or who have qualifications at the level of GCE/GCSE or
equivalent. It is also suitable for mature students with at least 5 years
relevant experience.
This qualification will help team leaders and supervisors and those who want
to rise to the first tier of management.
Work Experience: Although it is desirable that Certificate
students have some experience in the industry, no minimum is required.
Modules :
The OTHM Certificate consists of 4 modules:
- Introduction to Travel, Tourism and Hospitality
- Introduction to the Business Environment
- Introduction to Business Communication and Customer Care
- Introduction to Business and Finance
Each module requires 45 hours of classroom teaching.
Assessment : Each module is assessed by a three hour written
examination.
Progression: On passing the OTHM Certificate Members will be
eligible to be considered for OTHM Diploma course.
OTHM Diploma
Qualification:Dip OTHM
Who is this suitable for?
The OTHM Diploma is suitable for people who have passed the OTHM Certificate
(or equivalent) or who are already working at supervisory or management level.
Work Experience :
Diploma students are expected to either have work experience in the industry
before joining the course or be working part-time in the industry during the
course or both. Candidates should note that if they intend to study for further
professional qualifications in the industry a certain amount of industrial
experience will probably be required.

- Financial Management and Information Systems

eligible to be considered for OTHM Higher Diploma course.
OTHM Higher Diploma
Qualification: HDip OTHM
Who is this suitable for?
The OTHM Higher Diploma is suitable for people who work in the Tourism and
Hospitality Industry and who have already gained an OTHM Diploma, or other
qualifications at a suitable level.
This qualification is appropriate for middle and senior managers.
On completion of the OTHM Higher Diploma, you can also be put forward for
election as a Full Member of OTHM.
Work Experience
Higher Diploma students are expected to either have work experience in the
industry before joining the course or be working part-time in the industry
during the course or both. Candidates should note that if they intend to study
for further professional qualifications in the industry a certain amount of
industrial experience will probably be required.

Each module requires 45 hours of classroom teaching.
Assessment :
Each of modules 1 to 5 is assessed by a three hour written examination.
Module 6 is assessed by a project.
Progression:
On passing the OTHM Higher Diploma Members will be eligible to be considered
for various courses in recognised colleges and universities in the UK and around
the world.
